Description of the Position:

The Laser-Plasma-Interaction theoretician is an R&D physicist conducting a numerical and theoretical research of the interaction of short pulse High Intensity Laser with plasma. The Laser-plasma interaction is a highly non-linear phenomenon that involves relativistic electrodynamics, plasma physics, hydrodynamics, atomic physics and non-linear optics. The study is conducted through variety of Particle In Cell (PIC) and Hydro-dynamic simulations. The theoretical physicist will work closely with HIL’s experimental group providing theoretical support for experiments, revealing the dominant physics of laser-plasma interaction and aiming to uncover novel experimental designs that are preferential for proton acceleration. S/he works with a high level of autonomy, implementing currently-available simulation tools and developing new simulation capabilities. S/he is expected to be knowledgeable of the relevant scientific literature and to follow the progress of the scientific community in the relevant fields.

Qualifications:

·         Msc in physics, PhD or post doctoral experience are strongly preferred (or other equivalent experience).

·         Demonstrated experience in plasma physics / PIC simulation.

·         Experience in conducting large-scale parallel computations.

·         Expertise in high intensity laser physics – strong advantage.
